Council Member Wala Blegay! A WIN for Prince Georges County!!

 A Celebration for Wala Blegay! The NEW District 6 Council Member!

    On December 8,  I had the great opportunity of attending the Swearing Celebration event for District 6 Council member Wala Blegay Esq. 

Who is Wala Blegay?

    Council Member Wala Blegay was elected for Prince George's County Council District 6 in November 2022.  Ms. Blegay will be serving her first 4 year term as Vice-Chair for Prince George's County.  Ms. Blegay is an advocate for Civil Rights, Women’s Rights, and Workers’ Rights; she is the creator and host of the “Chat With a Lawyer” television talk show, a free legal resource for Prince George's County residents.  Council Member Wala Blegay is an adjunct professor at the American University Washington College of Law and former staff attorney for the DC Nurses Association.  

    Council Member Blegay is a first generation Liberian and Nigerian American; graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park with a B.A. in Government and Politics; and she earned a J.D. from the American University, Washington College of Law.   She is a proud member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (Directory Wala Blegay)

The Swearing Celebration

    The Swearing Celebration event took place at the County Club at Woodmore in Bowie, MD and this was a great event for all to enjoy.

    This celebration was a milestone to encompass all the hard work leading up to the election. All the grass root work that was made possible by an extraordinary team to include campaign manager Jashawn Stewart, who assisted with the organizing of this event.

    At this event colleagues, council members, family and friends gathered to celebrate and congratulate Council Member Wala on her VICTORY!  

Give a Gift of Joy During the Holiday

    Because the Christmas holiday was near it was only natural to want to collect gifts for those in need.  

    Attendees were asked to bring an unwrapped gift to contribute to the Toy drive for this event. The Holidays are a perfect time to give. 

    The venue, to include the event space was beautifully decorated and the theme was of course "Christmas" Guests took their seats and they were invited to indulge in the cash bar experience, a festive celebratory meal complete with cake for dessert.

    The evening’s Emcee was none other than the DMV's own Dr. Renee' Starlynn Allen.

The Program

    The evening began with words from the emcee follow by amazing music selections, then congratulatory words from colleagues, etc.  Ms Wala then took the stage to speak.

Keynote Speaker

    The keynote speaker for the evening was Dr. Gwendolyn Boyd.  The Keynote speaker was profound and very influential.  Her presence really moved the room and her message was unforgettable.

The Opinion 

    It's important that we celebrate our successes.  It is important that we take the time out to enjoy all that we have accomplished. Council Member Wala Blegay's Swearing Celebration event was not only a "Victory" for her, but also for Prince George's County, District 6, Women and Women of Color.  When the hard work pays off we ALL CELEBRATE!!  The amount of support and love that was shown at Council Member's Swearing Celebration was indeed overwhelming and very satisfying to witness.
