A Cause to Pause for The  Power of Fashion
The Savvy Event Guru had the opportunity of checking out The Power of Fashion Show on Saturday September 21, 2019!  

Fashion at its FINESS!  Everything about this show spoke volumes of GREATNESS in the making for future shows for this production team!!!  The venue, the designers, the fashion, the models, the special guests, etc all were strategic hand-picked to help with the success of this event!  What makes this event even more successful is the fact that the proceeds are connected to a CAUSE!!

The Cause

September is known as Sickle 

Cell Disease Awareness Month 

and proceeds from The Power 

of fashion show went to Sickle 

Cell Disease Association of 

America.

Background

Sickle Cell anemia, also known 

as sickle cell disease is a blood disorder caused by inherited 

abnormal hemoglobin, which cause red blood cells to distort and 

become sickle cells.  The sickle cells are very fragile and can 

easily rupture. Anemia sets in when these cells rupture and the 

number of red blood cells decrease.  (www.healthprep.com)

Sickle cell anemia is one of the more common genetic disorders in 

the world today.  It is believed to be roughly 100,000 individuals 

living with this condition.  (www.healthprep.com)

This is such a wonderful cause for such an event!  

The overall experience

Exceptional, very impressive and what I like to call “A cut above 

the rest”, is how I describe my over all experience after attending 

“The Power of Fashion” Show.  I arrived to the venue with perfect 

ease. Street parking was available for guests and participates or a 

quick cab ride to the venue was also an option.  Once inside, I was 

greeted by a Hostess in the foyer and I was then directed to the 

3^rd floor, where I was then escorted to the Fashion Show space and 

then escorted to my seat.  The show began with great 

entertainment by a wonderful dancer.  Followed by the welcome 

from the hostess with the MOST, Dr. Renee Allen, the host of the 

Renee Allen and Friends Show on WLVS Radio. The staff were 

very nice and accommodating  The vibe of the show was amazing 

and the timeline was carry out without a minute to spare! 

But of course this show would not be successful without a great 

production team!  The Team for the Power of Fashion Show 

included Toni Foster, Steve Bennett, Givonshy Smith, Toni 

Burnett, Phelan Marc, Tishawn Marie and several others!

This team knew that they needed to KICK the ball right out of the 

park with this first fashion show, so the choice of venue would 

definitely be important. 

The Venue

Heavy IRON doors greeted you at the entrance to the venue, along 

with Cathedral Style walls and ceilings, plush couch and chairs, 

wall height mirrors, mantles, fire places and a stair case ONLY 

seen in magazines; the Perry Belmont House, located at 1618 New 

Hampshire Ave NW, Washington, DC 20009, was an excellent 

choice for venue for such an extravagant event.  The setting of 

each room told a story of the venue and told a story for what you 

would experience at this event.

 

High ceilings, marble floors, pictures handing, candle chandelier 

hanging in the center of the room, long drapes show of life in 

another time, another decade, another era.  The scene was 

definitely set for the Power of Fashion Show.

The venue was PERFERRRT for this Inaugural event.  When guests arrived they headed up the elegant stair case to the 3^rd floor 

and then directed to the venue space.  The Fashion show space was 

tucked away in a grand size room located near the rear of the 3^rd 

floor.  A GOLD, GRAND, piano greeted you at the entrance of the 

space!  The room was clothed in burgundies, golds, reds and 

creams, 2 aisles of lined chiavari chairs faced one another, GOLD 

drapes hugged the floor length windows with candle lobbers that 

hung from the wall and a chandler from the ceiling.  Each chair 

welcomed guests with a SWAG bag. The candle lights, sparks of 

reds, burgundies and gold gave the event space more of a romantic 

feel and set the mode for the event.  An A+ to the Production team!

Special guests

The Power of Fashion Show had a pleather of exciting and 

wonderful guests at their inaugural event.

Icon extraordinaire, Mr. John Blassingame founding publisher for 

“Hype Hair”, TBW Style Report and Blackmen magazine, with 

other work in 12 other magazines, was present for the Power of 

Fashion Show event.

Chief Executive Publisher of Fashion Avenue News, Editor-in-

Chief of Global Luxury Brands, Model World, The Fan Daily, The 

Editors Council and the Fashion Impire, Ms. Sofia Davis was also 

in the building for this event.

The Hostess with the MOST was none other than Dr. Renee Allen, 

the Host of the Renee Allen and friends show on WLVS Radio.  

This 22 year Retired Veteran, is on the Board of Directors for 

American Mother’s Inc, Felicia’s Fund, Eleanor Foundation, is the 

Secretary and Historian for Sisters 4 sisters Network and an 

international best-selling author of “Rebel Rising”

The Power of Fashion brought together other big media names and 

brands in and around the DMV.  We all came together on one 

accord for the cause and to view the fashion.

The Fashion

The Power of Fashion Show designers were phenomenal.  Guests 

had the opportunity of viewing fashion by designers, Jarmal 

Harris, Margaret Persaud with Gamakache Black, Mrs. 

Maryland United States 2017 Katya Avdeev with Katya Avdeev 

Couture, and International hall of Fame Celebrity designer 

Scheron Harley with Haus of Falenci’ago. Elegant, Chic, 

Gorgeous, and romantic, each designer brought something, new, 

fresh and divine to the runway.

The fashion REPRESENTED the VENUE very well!!  Location, 

location is always important when planning an event.  As a fellow 

event coordinator and show producer, I pride myself on creating an 

experience for my guests and the location plays a role in the kind 

of experience that one will get!

ASCFW Fashion Show 9.7.19....NYFW S/S20

MODESTY AT ITS BEST!
The Fashion spectrum reaches from city to city, from country to country and from culture to culture.  On Saturday September 7, 2019 I had the wonderful opportunity of attending The ASC Fashion Week’s MODEST INDONESIAN Designers Fashion Show for New York Fashion Week. This Mid-day fashion show began at 1pm.  The style of this fashion show was a modest style with a twist of modernness. I took in this mid-day fashion show in hopes of viewing gorgeous fashion from an international platform.

Indonesia is located in South East Asia with more than 300 ethnic groups and a population of around 260 million. (www.worldbank.org) 

Indonesia has the largest Muslim Community in the world and the Largest Buddhist Sanctuary as well.  Hinduism is the oldest religion in Indonesia and is considered the main religion. (www.culturetrip.com)

Before you can fully understand another country's style, practices or manners, you must first studied that country and their culture or cultures! 

Religion plays a major role in the lives of families and communities in many countries and the way of dress is also an important part of religion as well. Like all people in all cultures, fashion is important and looking good is even more important.

OVERALL EXPERIENCE 

Extraordinary, enlighten, unique and enjoyable is how I describe my over all experience at the ASC Fashion Week Fashion Show on Saturday, September 7, 2019!  My experience right down to arriving to the venue was excellent! Once I arrived to the venue, I was able to walk right into the venue, up the stairs and to the fashion show space. The staff was very grace-full and helpful in directing me to where I needed to be.  I met one of the producers of the show right away!  

Mr. Chauhan was very nice and personable.  Mr. Chauhan showed me where I would be sitting at the fashion show event, which happen to be on the front row near the entrance of the Runway!  Another "GREAT SPOT" to see another great fashion show! 

Prior to the show starting I was able to meet and mingle with a few people that were there to see the event.  Everyone, including the photographers were very friendly and the mood was fantastic in anticipation of seeing this amazing show in such a great venue!

THE VENUE

The ASC Fashion Week Fashion Show took place at the Metropolitan Pavilion located on West 18th Street in Manhattan, NY.  The venue space was located on the 2^nd floor of the Pavilion.  The set up of the room consisted of 2 aisles that were lined with White chairs on both sides that faced each other, LARGE ASC Fashion Week logos were displayed on the massive screens that welcomed the guests at the front of the aisles.

 White floors and white walls completed the clean, crisp look. 

For a bit of flare, the ASC Fashion Week team added a step and repeat of the sponsors and a pop-up sign for the ASC Fashion Magazine in the venue space as well.

As the saying goes, less is more and simple is sometimes best!

THE FASHION

The fashion industry has expanded in so many ways over the last decade.  There are so many options now for shoes, coats, bags, jewelry, make-up and head-wraps for both women and men; customers have designers at their fingertips ready to deliver and satisfy their wants and needs.

Breath-taking, bold, beautiful, professional and refreshing is how I would describe the fashion for the ASC FASHION Week Mid-Day Modest Indonesian Fashion show.  I have attended several fashion shows and I have even produced my own as well, but never have I ever had the opportunity to view such beautiful fabric and patterns.  As someone who was born here in the United States, sometimes we are ignorant to the knowledge of other cultures, culture-wear and beliefs. 

THE FASHION

The designers that were included in the array of gorgeous attire for this fashion show were Novita Sari, RYA Baraba, Lia Afif, Riris Ghofir, Tuty Adib, Gila Orlin, Nina Nugroho, Leny Rafael,  Jeny Tjahyawati, Nieta Hidayani and Lia Soraya.  These designers did not come to play!  Everything was beautiful! 

I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to attend such a spectacular fashion show event.  I met a few of the designers and guests at the very end of the show and the reaction by all was the same!!  Everything was beautiful!

ASC FASHION WEEK
The Fashion Industry is constantly changing and to stay relevant in this Industry, one must stay current with today's latest style, trends and accessories. ASC Production Inc, puts on the ASC Fashion Week  during New York Fashion Week in New York City each season!  ASC Production Inc has been producing their fashion show during New York Fashion Week for the past 4 now 5 years. The ASC Fashion Week is one of the MAJOR fashion shows for New York Fashion Week and is documented as part of the New York Fashion Week calendar! (www.ascproductioninc.com)

I believe that when a person has a good experience at an event, they are more likely to share that experience with others and persuade them to attend the same event.  Word of Mouth advertisement is very instrumental in getting the word out about a particular event and as an event planner and with many event planners the goal is get people in the seats and use as many forms of marketing you can use.

The ASC FASHION WEEK aims to promote diversification, bringing together a diverse group of designers within the New York Metropolitan area and beyond.  Flair, style, sass and a bit of sophistication is what you will find at ASC Fashion Week!  ASC Fashion Week aims to please and the ASC definitely delivers a professional runway experience, everything from Lights, Cameras to décor!

The FASHION
A individual's STYLE,  has a unique way of revealing to the WORLD, exactly who you are!  Fashion derives from the word "Style".  Fashion Designers use their own style of dress, style of what they like or don't like to create the fashion of their choice.  From belt buckles to neck ties, all fashion designs begin with an idea that a designer once had. 

It is pretty safe to say that every component of ASC Production is driven by the Fashion Industry.  What ASC Production Inc has created is an outlet for designers from ALL WALKS of Life, to come together under one roof and reintroduce to some and present to others a collection of amazing garments that are yet to be seen by anyone.

The Components of the ASC Production Inc, not only includes Fashion Shows, but also the ASC Fashion Magazine.

ASC Fashion Magazine is a New York-based magazine that covers a multitude of New York fashion designers as well as designers, Nationwide and Internationally.
